Songkran New Year. Welcome to the biggest unofficial waterparty in world. 70 mio Thai people and tourist are celebrating Songkran. The throwing of water was original a way to pay respect to people it could also symbolize watching off all the bad things. It means it has changed from spiritual and religious aspects to a fun national folk festival.

The Thais are celebrating this Thai New Year everywhere normal from the 13th og 16th April every year and popular holiday places as e.g. Mae Rumphung Beach in Rayong will be total clouded with tourist both Thais and foreigners. Every hotel will be total occupied and the price will also be at least 50% higher during those 3 days. So don’t go if you don’t want to be a part of this New Year.

Songkran was official New Year until 1888 it means 125 years ago and it will be in year 2431 according to the Thai year. Today it is 2556 according to Thai calendar.
